    • Step #5: Selecting actions for task notification
  • Make the Most of the Asana Slack Integration

Let’s Integrate Asana and Slack

Slack provides a platform for team communication in one place. You get instant messaging, document sharing, etc., all in one place.

Asana, a leading work management platform, helps your team organize their work. You may use Asana to build a live system of clarity where everyone can see, discuss, and execute their team’s priorities.

Step #1: Downloading the Asana app from the Slack App Directory

  • Visit Slack App Directory and search “Asana.”
  • Click on “Add to Slack”.
  • Choose the Slack channels to which Asana should post. Then, to include direct communications, select Search for Channels.

Note: You and the other team members should log into your Asana accounts directly from the Slack channel.

  • Go to Slack’s Apps section (located at the bottom of the left sidebar in your main Slack screen) and choose Asana.
  • In the message box, type the command: /asana
  • Click Connect Asana to Slack to provide application rights, and then pick the Allow option, to access your Asana account.

Step #2: Setting up Asana tasks within Slack

  • One way to do this is by entering the command: /asana create to create a new Asana task in the Slack platform.

Step #3: Turning Slack Messages into Asana Tasks

  • Place your cursor over the message for which you want to create a task. A little toolbar appears on your screen afterward.
  • Click on the three horizontal dots (hamburger icon), known as the “more actions” button on the far right option.
  • Select Create a task … Asana option to create a task automatically.

Once you complete creating a task it will appear like this for you to further work in the slack tasks like the image shown below:

Step #4: Asana Notification Set Up

  • Begin by choosing the channel for which you want the notifications bar on the left, and then type the command: /asana link in Slack.
  • After that, press the Enter key. Choose whatever project to integrate with Slack.

Step #5: Selecting actions for task notification

Here is a way:

Click the More actions option on the right of the individual task notification.

There will be choices such as ‘mark complete’, ‘change due date’, ‘add to project’, and others.

Select the option you need for your project.

Make the Most of the Asana Slack Integration

You can do so much with the Asana Slack integration to manage your projects better. We have compiled a list of actions in this section to make the most of the integration.

Here are a few things you can do with Asana Slack integration:

Getting Notification

Using Asana Slack integration, you can immediately get personal notifications on work allocation, task updates, and comments.

  • New Tasks Assignments. When a new task is given to you, you’ll receive a message on Slack with information such as who assigned it to you, the due date, the task name, and the work description, among other things.
  • Task Updates. You will receive alerts on changes when you are assigned to any Asana tasks. For example, if the due date of a task changes, you’ll be notified through Slack.
  • Any Comments Made on Tasks. After Asana Slack integration, you’ll receive notifications on Slack anytime there is a remark on the tasks you’ve been assigned. Furthermore, you may respond to or like the remark directly from the notification.

Linking Asana Projects

You can connect individual Asana tasks to Slack channels to inform everyone in the channel about changes to your projects.

  • Creative Requests. You may allocate design requests to designers or add questions to projects so that everyone understands what they need to achieve. Likewise, every team member will know who is in charge of each request, making things even more transparent.
  • Bug Tracking. When a significant defect that affects your consumers is reported, everyone will be notified immediately. In this manner, every team member can quickly handle the issue.
  • Product and Campaign Launches. Merging real-time messaging with your project plans, you can keep everyone in sync by notifying everyone when tasks are finished.

Bottom Line

It is possible to develop ideas, task requests, and critical context at any time during a fast-brainstorming session on Slack.

Successfully, Asana Slack integration merged Slack’s instant messaging platform with Asana’s outstanding project management functionality. Because of the new Asana Slack integration, you won’t have to switch between the two platforms to obtain work updates or take action on projects.

We hope this article has aided you in setting up the Asana Slack integration.

Chris “Simon” Calder was working as a Project Manager in IT for one of Los Angeles’ most prestigious cultural institutions, LACMA. He taught himself to use Microsoft Project from a giant textbook and hated every moment of it. Online learning was in its infancy then, but he spotted an opportunity and made an online MS Project course - the rest, as they say, is history!
