Using WordArt
Using the WordArt feature, you can not only change the color and appeal of the text, but you can also curve or box the text around a shape.
Let us now see how to curve text in Word around an object (a picture).
- First, open Microsoft Word and insert an image. To insert an image, navigate to Insert and click on the dropdown from Picture and select the image.
- Now, navigate to Insert. Under the Text section, click on the dropdown from WordArt and choose any style. In this case, let us go with the black text with a white outline.
- Once you choose the WordArt style, the placeholder text saying “Your text here” appears. Click on the WordArt sample text and type in your text.
- After typing your text, select the WordArt style by double-clicking on the text.
- Then, navigate to the Shape Format ribbon. Under the WordArt Styles section, click on the dropdown from Text Effects. Click on Transform and select any of the curve styles. In this case, let us go with the Arch curve style under the Follow Path section.
- Now, we have the required curved text in Word.
- Once you click on the text, the WordArt style is highlighted. You can then use the outline to move the style and use the anchor points to resize the style.
- The yellow point which appears when text is selected is used to change the curvature of the text. Additionally, you can use the Layout Options button which appears on the right side of the selection to change the wrapping style of the particular WordArt style.

Additional Customizations
Wrap Text Around the Object
In some cases, you might want to curve the text in a circle around an object. To curve the text in a circle around the object, choose the Circle from the Follow Path section under the Text Effects tab.
Note: When you choose the Circle WordArt style, make sure you have sufficiently long text for the best results. This curve style will be very useful when using any tagline or slogans with your logo.
Wrap Text as a Square
When you want to wrap text around a square or rectangle, there aren’t any text effects to wrap around. However, you need to select the same Word style four-time and then, move and resize the section.
Without Using WordArt

- Open the Word document.
- Navigate to Insert. Under the Text section, click on the dropdown from Text Box and select Draw Text Box.
- Now, left-click and drag on the page to draw the text box.
- Type in the text you want. You can change the font size, font style, color, and other additional customizations of the text based on your preferences. You can also move or resize the textbox using the outline and anchor points respectively.
- Once you have typed in and customized your text, right-click on the text box outline and select Format Shape.
- In the Format Shape pane, click on Shape Options. Click on the Fill & Line button. Under the Fill section, select No fill.
Let us now curve the text.
- Navigate to Shape Format in the main menu ribbons. Click on the dropdown from Text Effects. Under the Transform section, select any of the curve styles. In this case, let us select the Arch: Down text effect.
- This adds the curve effect to the selected text. Now, you can use the outline, anchor points, and the yellow spot to change the curvature of the text.
How to Undo Curve in Word?
In some cases, you might not want the text to be curved. So, you might think of deleting the whole text or the section. However, there is a much simpler way to undo the curving of the text.
- First, select the text from which you want to remove the curve effect.
- Navigate to Shape Format. Under the WordArt Styles section, click on the dropdown from Text Effects, and under Transform, select None.
This removes the curve effect from the selected text.
