How to Create a Jira Gantt Chart using Plugins[2022]
A Jira Gantt chart is a project management tool that illustrates a project plan. It comes in two sections: a left-side task list and a right-side timeline with work-scheduling bars. The Gantt chart may show start and end dates for tasks and milestones, task dependencies, assigners, and assignees.
A collapsible task structure and resource management panels are elements that roadmap solutions like Jira Software offer to keep up with the demands of modern software development. Even though the software development process is iterative, these roadmap tools help teams stick to a consistent project strategy.
A Gantt chart is a particular kind of bar or schedule of tasks or milestones. The method that displays the entire project is broken down into three phases and involves adding an additional line to the grid, hence the name. A project’s effect on the rest of the organization and the company is easily reflected with the help of this depiction. An administrator who has registered can preview tasks, milestones, and teams using the Jira Gantt Chart add-on.

Jira Gantt Chart Uses
In a project, Jira Gantt charts are commonly used as a road map of activities that you can periodically iterate on as necessary. The first step towards using the chart is to identify the project’s objectives, the various activities and their respective durations, and the team member responsible for each stage of completion. Determining the timeline for each activity according to their level of importance helps the project management team track completion rates.
The Jira Gantt chart acts as a project roadmap that you can edit easily and revise accordingly. Apart from the road map’s organization, it can also include the sizes of the team members and the costs of the undertaking.

How to Create a Jira Gantt Chart
You can’t create a Jira chart by default, but it is possible to create a basic Gantt chart and export the list of tasks to the clipboard.
To see a working Gantt chart with a custom task board, you must grant admin permission to create a Jira Tracking Service, and then you can attach task lists.
To configure, open your Jira and click Menu > Settings, which is located in the top right-hand corner. This opens a dialog. At the bottom of the dialog, click “Edit Settings.” In the “Account Management” section, select the account name and “Team Management,” which can create and manage tasks. Click “Save and Apply Settings,” as this makes the Gantt Chart appear on the right-hand side of the page, but it stores all items in the “Tasks” folder.
To add a task, just click “Add Task” to the right of the page. The first task should show as completed and the next one should show completion. You can add more tasks to see how far you are along in the project. If you scroll down the page you can see the work in progress for the current task. If you want to undo a task, you may select the “Recover” option. Selecting this option will mean that no user will see this task again, and the original task is undone.
Once the configuration is complete, we can now install the Gantt chart plugins to Jira software to enable them to the Gantt chart view.
Here are some of the best Jira Gantt Chart plugins:
1. Kanban Gantt
Kanban viewer is the most popular plugin for accessing the Gantt chart editor on Jira Software. It is ideal for creating a project Gantt chart and using the editor that comes with Gantt Viewer. It provides a comfortable user interface and various options for the Gantt chart. The plugin is simple to use and provides a quick view of the tasks, dependencies, milestones, and global sprint calendar.
You can also find these tasks, dependencies, project scope, and timeline. The options will customize the chart to your requirements and display the data easily. It also prevents you from conflicts in the tasks and tracks the time on the Gantt Viewer. It is available as a plugin for Jira, Atlassian Confluence, and other kinds of project management software. Kanban Viewer provides the most popular view in the commercial and open-source worlds. In addition, it also has had the reputation as Atlassian’s MVP (Most Valuable Plugin) for many years.
2. Big Gantt
Big Gantt for Jira is a web-based tool that enables you to work with Gantt charts. To do this, you need to paste the URL of the file that you want to edit. The extension has a solid and popular version for Jira, so it is the best option.
You may use this tool to create and change various views, edit or reorganize process phases, and plan various activities, including recurring tasks and time-based events. It is web-based, so you may access it from any device, including a desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. Because there is a lot of customization available, it is easy to use for individuals or a team.
3. Gantt Suite
Gantt suite for Jira is a web-based tool that lets analysts working on Jira projects graphically monitor their tasks as they occur across time. A Gantt chart is a visual depiction of a task’s tasks that generally correlate to a timetable. With this, you can create a timeline from a project and subprojects to view them at a glance.
The Gantt suite helps you see many timelines in various aspects depending on distinct tasks. It’s a matrix calculator based on a Gantt chart. It includes different views of Gantt charts, including adjusting time durations, switching between column and row selection, sorting, filtering, and grouping.
4. WBS Gantt Chart
WBS Gantt chart is a type of Gantt chart that works for project management. This type of Gantt chart goes by the acronym WBS, or “work breakdown structure.” It is based on the concept of decomposing the problem into smaller and achievable tasks. When using this type of Gantt chart, you must first identify the project scope by the project owner.
For every deliverable or milestone, the Jira WBS Gantt chart should be added to the project. Identifying the project’s scope is important because each Gantt chart represents a single scope. How scheduling works in Jira using the Gantt chart is useful to show work progress, because sometimes it is difficult to easily see how much is left and what has already been done.
Jira Gantt Chart – Variations
To create Gantt charts for your projects, Jira offers two roadmap tools: Roadmaps, which makes plans according to Jira problems assigned to a team, and Advanced Roadmaps, which does the same thing across teams and companies.
Jira Roadmaps
Jira’s roadmaps come from baselines, which are long connecting lines that run along the top, bottom, left, and right of the timeline. The ground or X-axis is time and appears as a horizontal line. Milestones show you the target date for completion, and the milestones can be time-based or date-based.
Time-based milestones are red or yellow and date-based milestones are blue or black. Milestones appear as upward-facing arrows. The timeline below is a screenshot of a Gantt chart.
The roadmaps link to a baseline, which is a link that connects milestones. Whenever you change the baseline, your roadmap changes depending on which milestones are linked.
Jira Advanced Roadmaps
Jira advanced roadmaps are the most optimal way to present your project in a visually appealing way. Creating a Gantt chart with a visualization of a road map is where the concept of agile meets the nonlinear schedule, which is ideal for the project team that is looking for the most accurate estimation of their timeline. Advanced Gantt charts provide the best performance when it comes to the project timeline.
They also provide a clue as to which milestones you can reorder within the roadmap. Another plus of an advanced road map is that you can create it through a user-friendly interface that incorporates the Gantt chart template.
Users can drag and drop in modules, attaching them to their milestones, tasks, and other types of activities. The template is loaded from a baseline and you can view the chart in the dashboard. There is a zoom tool that you can use to view the entire chart from a bird’s eye view.
Wrapping Up
Jira Gantt Chart can visualize project plans and tasks in time and space without having to write a single line of code. Projects have an interesting and dynamic distribution problem in which something always seems to happen at the same time. Jira Gantt Chart enables you to view the project plan as a whole and make notes on the plan through various views. It’s a productive and efficient way to track and present your project data.
