Let’s see what Jira is about in a short brief below:

Jira is a cloud-based project management tool for teams that assists with task and project management. It is used to organize tasks, oversee them, and evaluate your successes. Amazon, Google, FedEx, and IBM are just a few of the businesses that utilize Jira. Project managers, team captains, and software developers may all make use of this program.

Jira Roadmaps – Overview

The features offered by Jira Roadmaps lets you create, manage, and modify it using different types of columns and tables. You can also create custom fields to be displayed on those columns and tables.

You can add even more features by making use of the add-ons, basic gates, customized add-ons, and more. The roadmap is a split feature in which there are three columns: Prioritized Tasks, Horizon, and Tasks.

This reusable Gantt/roadmap planning calendar enables you to tackle your most important tasks in a methodical manner. Additionally, you may model your strategy with editable columns to see your milestones and goals. A mobile-first, persistent, intelligent, and pleasant web application may help you do all of this.

Jira Advanced Roadmaps – Overview

Advanced Roadmaps uses Jira software’s boards, projects, and filters to show data in a user-friendly interface. Before changing your original data in Jira software, you may plan and experiment in this environment, which serves as a sandbox. You may identify the important route of your strategy, investigate potential modifications, and change the Jira software interface all with a single click. You can share the workflow through built-in collaboration tools like Jira workflows. Jira software’s dashboard can be accessed from anywhere, on any device.

Jira software roadmap templates contain functionalities to plan and share roadmaps with your team, friends, and existing clients. You can display static or animating roadmaps, and upload your pictures. In addition, you can create goals and milestones in roadmap templates so teams can focus on the little things.

Steps to Create Jira Advanced Roadmaps

Step 1:

In the Navigation bar click on Plans. A dialogue box will appear then click on Create plan.

A pop-up will appear like the image below.

Step 2:

Mention your Plan name in the required field as shown in the below image.

Step 3:

In the Access tab click on the drop-down and choose the Private option if you are the only person who wants to access the plan or choose Open if you want to give access to the other users as well.

Step 4:

Under the Issue sources tab choose the Board or Project you want to include in the plan.

Step 5:

The second tab includes the list of Projects in the drop-down to choose from.

Step 6:

If you want to add more than one board or project to the same plan you can include it by clicking on the Add another button.

Below that there is an option called Set exclusion rules for the plan you are going to create.

Step 7:

Once you click on the Set exclusion rules, a pop-up will appear like the image below. This pop-up gives you an option to exclude the issues which you don’t want to include in the plan.

This is to avoid the inclusion of closed or completed issues. The rules can be altered later when the issue gets reopened or when the status changes.

Step 8:

After you set the refined rules for your issues you can further move to View releases under the Exclude releases section.

Step 9:

This is just to sort and see the excluded and included issues in the plan to know their status, creation, and release date/time.

Step 10:

Once you have completed all the steps as mentioned above you can then hit the Create button after which a pop-up box like the below image appears to give you a tour guide on how to use the advanced roadmaps feature.

Step 11:

The final image of advanced roadmaps will appear like this in the image shown below. Remember, this advanced roadmap will show the details of the project or board you have included in the plan and not every issue you have listed in your project.

Advanced Roadmaps Features Highlights

Advanced Roadmaps have features that are specifically intended for high-level, long-term planning. Some of its highlighted features are below:

  • Increase the hierarchy levels: By adding more hierarchy levels, such as initiatives, to produce wider, all-encompassing plans.
  • Consider all dependencies: View all conceivable dependencies that may have an influence on your timetable (even if they live outside your plan).
  • Play in a sandbox setting: Anything that occurs in Advanced Roadmaps remains there. Until you’re ready, your changes won’t be saved to Jira problems.
  • Plan according to the capacity and velocity of your team: Schedule tasks at a speed that your teams can manage to make sure your plan is feasible.
  • Plan for every event: Experiment with many iterations of your strategy depending on all potential outcomes. You are welcome to ponder what “my strategy might look like if…”

Wrapping Up

Create Jira advanced roadmaps to help keep you on the winning path. These advanced roadmaps will help you maximize your work efficiency, gain insight into your work, and give you an effective strategy for the future. If you are looking for a way to stay focused and on task for a certain goal, this is for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the difference between roadmaps and advanced roadmaps? (Xanax)

A user creates a roadmap and uses it to compile the Jira tasks that need to be finished in order to achieve a release date. On the other side, when a release is approaching and there are specific tasks that need to be completed, the team creates advanced roadmaps. But this does not have to just be for software releases, it can also be for Jira as a whole when there are specific tasks.

2. Is Jira’s advanced roadmaps free?

Jira’s advanced roadmaps can be created and edited in the free plan of Jira. The only limitation is that they can only be used on projects in the free plan. To view the full list of features and billing information, visit the Cloud Solutions page in the Jira Web app.

3. How to enable Jira advanced roadmaps

You can enable the advanced roadmaps by selecting Jira > Settings > Roadmaps – Advanced Roadmaps > Open on the top left corner of your screen. You can also enable the advanced roadmaps from the “General” tab in Jira. Some configuration is required only when creating an advanced roadmap.
